As a strategy and marketing consultancy, presenting to business leaders comes with the territory. Here are our top tips for nailing that presentation:

  1. Effective communication is not just words, body language accounts for more than half of what we communicate, if you're not confident in what you're saying, neither will your audience be. Being confident presenting isn't easy for everyone, but managing your stress levels and practicing your presentation will help.

  2. Structure your presentation to have a strong start and end. Research shows this is when your audience is most engaged and being aware of this will help ensure you deliver your key messages.

  3. Repeat, repeat, repeat. It's simple, we're more likely to retain information if it's repeated. You may feel like you're being repetitive, but the audience will quickly understand your key takeaways.

  4. The rule of three. It's a fact that people better understand concepts, situations, and ideas in groups of three. You can use the rule of three in many ways, including:

    1. Structuring your presentation into three parts, ask yourself what are the three key messages you want your audience to understand.

    2. Including lists of three, this tactic is particularly popular with politicians. “Our priorities are Education, Education, Education” - Tony Blair 1996

  5. Know your audience. Business leaders are busy people, ensure you provide them with the information they need to take the action you need them to. Think about what's important to them and how much they know already. Think about the questions they may have and be prepared to answer them.

  6. Make sure your content is professional and engaging, when it comes to presenting to business leaders, looks matter.
